cut outs, 2020-2021
Based on a set of rock representations and symbols, the “Cut Outs” series its about the cycle of life.
the POSITIVES. This 29 works are kind of a metamorphosis of ancestral forms scratched in the stone that are transformed here into monochromatic sheets of paper that overlap and mimic the permanent game between what is positive and what is negative, what is full and what is empty, in rhythmic drawings, where such shapes were crudely cut with scissors, assuming an influence of Henri Matisse and his "Jazz" cut-outs.
the NEGATIVES. This is a set of 7 drawings I called the “negatives” subseries that specifically deal with the challenge of accepting what's different; in these works, the challenge was to draw, reusing and reframing leftovers from the previous drawings; These by-products could easily be discarded for being considered dirty and useless were not for this being a topic that particularly interests me: the idea of creating from the unexpected, the accidental and the different.
